Born in Charleston, South Carolina Shannon grew up amidst a whirlwind of change, The family traversed five states and thirteen cities before she was twenty. This nomadic upbringing bestowed upon her a unique perspective on life.
Her mother used to say that she came "out of the womb singing". She found solace in the captivating worlds of classical music and musical theatre, but also immersed herself in the modern works of luminaries such as Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, John Denver and Kenny Rogers. These influential storytellers ignited a creative fire within her, setting the stage for her own musical odyssey.
She started with classical and operatic training at 18, but after almost 7 years of training her voice was on the verge of giving out.
A long break and non musical detour in life ensued and it wasn’t until 2020 when she gave birth to her daughter and her father died 18 days later and then the world went in to lockdown within 2 months of those two huge moments, that she was brought back to music and reminded of how much a part of her life it had always been and how much she missed it.
"My father had always been a big supporter of my music and he hadn’t heard me sing in years before he passed and, of course, you sing to your baby, that’s what you do. From those simple nursery rhymes came the motivation to come out of my self-imposed music isolation to start writing songs again, seek out a vocal coach and find the right artists to collaborate with to bring my songs to life." - Shannon Shea
